Goodman starts courtroom fight with fellow prisoner

According to a Stillwater newspaper report, a former Guthrie man started a fight inside a Payne County courtroom on Wednesday morning.

Capt. Kevin Woodward with the Payne County Sheriff’s Office told the Stillwater News Press they’re investigating a fight between Jonathan Lee Goodman and Craig Andrew Phillips.

Woodward said the 31-year-old Goodman started the fight.

The newspaper reports Phillips, who was in front of a judge for a larceny of copper charge, sustained minor injuries, but was taken to a bathroom and cleaned up and returned to the courtroom

Woodward said that Goodman was quickly restrained after he struck Phillips and was taken to the Payne County Jail and placed in isolation.

In July 2015, Goodman pleaded guilty to four charges in Logan County, including domestic abuse by strangulation, and was released after serving a year in the county jail. Goodman, whose residence now shows to be in Cushing, was then arrested in March 2016 for trafficking illegal drugs and obstructing an officer in Cushing. Court records show due to Goodman’s courtroom behavior, his case has been reset for Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.
