The Guthrie High School baseball team is entering postseason play with a trip to Newcastle this week, where the Bluejays will compete in a Class 5A four-team, double-elimination regional beginning Thursday.
The winner of the regional will advance to next week’s state tournament in Tulsa, keeping the season alive for one of the four competing programs.
Guthrie, which finished fourth in its district (5A-1), will open regional play against Altus, the fifth-place finisher in its district (5A-2). In the other opening-round matchup, host Newcastle, the 5A-2 district champion, will face Southeast.
Going into regional action, season records are as follows: Newcastle 28-6, Guthrie 19-12, Altus 13-18, and Southeast 1-23.
Guthrie and Newcastle were scheduled to meet twice during the regular season, but both matchups were canceled due to rain, adding another layer of unfamiliarity heading into the postseason and potential matchup.
The Bluejays are also aiming to return to the state tournament for the first time since 2021.
Regional schedule (Thursday)
Game 1: Newcastle vs Southeast — 11 a.m.
Game 2: Guthrie vs Altus — 1:30 p.m.
Game 3: Winners of Games 1 and 2 — 4:00 p.m.

On Friday, the elimination bracket continues:
Game 5: Loser of Game 3 vs Winner of Game 4 — 4:00 p.m.
Game 6: Winner of Game 3 vs Winner of Game 5 — 6:30 p.m.
If necessary, a deciding Game 7 will be played Saturday at 2:00 p.m. if the winner of Game 5 (loser of Game 3) forces an “if necessary” matchup.
