Guthrie Chamber hosts annual banquet; announces winners

The Guthrie Chamber of Commerce announced its Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award during their awards banquet held last week at the Guthrie Job Corps Center.

Golden Chick was named the Business of the Year. The chicken stop, located at 2621 E Highway 33, has been one of the nation’s leading stores since opening three years ago. General Manager Lula Manderscheid accepted the award.

Former Chamber CEO Heady Coleman, who now is part of Northchurch in Guthrie, received the Citizen of the Year award.

“We moved back to Guthrie in 2009. 8 years of loving on Guthrie…and he has loved every minute!” Coleman’s wife, Bernadette Coleman, said.

Volunteer of the Year, which comes as a prestigious award with several dedicated volunteers in Guthrie, was given to Jerry Gammill.

“Thank you very much. I appreciate this,” Gammill said after receiving his award. “I really didn’t dress up because I thought I was going to get this,” Gammill said as he raised the plaque. “Thank you.”

Mayor Steve Gentling presented Gary Weeks with the Lifetime Achievement Award for several years of dedication to the community.

Weeks is a retired minister and serves as a board member for God’s Food Bank, Red Cross and Lions Club.

If you or your business would like to be a part of the Guthrie Chamber you can contact their office inside City Hall (101 N. 2nd St.), or by phone at 405-282-1947.
