Guthrie cross country, track Balenseifen resigning

Guthrie High School cross country and track coach Bryce Balenseifen is resigning his position and announced he will be leaving education and moving to Texas.

Balenseifen shared the news in a heartfelt message reflecting on his time in Guthrie and thanking the community, fellow coaches, administrators, parents, and student-athletes.

Balenseifen arrived at Guthrie in the summer of 2022 and said he quickly learned about the tradition and expectations that surrounded the Bluejay programs.

“When I showed up in summer of 2022, I was a 25-year-old coach who didn’t know what he didn’t know,” Balenseifen wrote. “But I did know Guthrie had a rich history and tradition of talented teams with a blue-collar spirit.”

He credited those around him for helping continue that tradition, highlighting accomplishments including helping student-athletes reach their potential, strengthening community relationships, honoring longtime coach Tarter through the annual cross country meet, and continuing to build connections through the Boxley Elementary Meet.

Balenseifen thanked coaches, administrators, parents, and families who supported him during his time in Guthrie.

He also expressed appreciation to Cheryl Tarter and the Ochs family for welcoming him and making Guthrie feel like home.

His final message centered on the athletes he coached.

“Lastly, thank you to every kid I coached over the last four years,” Balenseifen wrote. “You all worked so hard and always gave it all you had. Coaching you all has been one of the biggest blessings in my life.”

Balenseifen said Guthrie will always hold a special place in his heart and added that he plans to remain a Bluejay supporter from Texas.

“Every single time I put on a Guthrie shirt, it makes me feel a sense of pride. This entire community is magical, and I feel like I’ve always been here… I will be the biggest Bluejay fan in the entire state of Texas.”
