For more than 50 years, the greenhouse at Guthrie High School has served as a cornerstone of the agricultural education program, helping shape generations of students pursuing careers in agriculture, horticulture, botany, and floral design. Now, the longtime facility is making way for a new chapter.
In a heartfelt message shared by Guthrie Agricultural Education / FFA, the program reflected on the closing of the greenhouse that has been a staple of the Ag program for decades.
“There is a line in the creed that states: in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years,” the post began.
Program leaders described the greenhouse as more than just a building, calling it a place filled with years of memories, education, and opportunity for students who passed through its doors.
According to the post, the greenhouse helped prepare future agriculturists, botanists, and floral designers while also serving as a valuable teaching tool for instructors over the years.
While acknowledging the sadness that comes with saying goodbye to the longtime structure, the organization expressed excitement for the future and the opportunities that a new facility will provide students in the years ahead.
The group also thanked Guthrie Public Schools and the community for investing in a new agricultural education facility that will continue the traditions of Guthrie FFA while expanding opportunities for students interested in agriculture and horticulture.
“I’m so excited we are finally getting this project off the ground,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said. “The need for a new greenhouse was identified over two years ago, and careful budgeting in our Building Fund will now make this project a reality.”
The message concluded with optimism for the future, noting that the new chapter will help equip students to become progressive agriculturists prepared to serve both their communities and the agriculture industry.
