Guthrie FFA selected for AG-ED Teacher Academy

Dylan Johnston and Breyden Codding of the Guthrie FFA chapter has been selected as one of 15 members to attend the 2016 Future Ag-Ed Teacher Academy and Scholarship Program June 20 through 24 at Oklahoma State University.

Designed for 2016-2017 high school juniors and seniors interested in becoming an agricultural education instructor, the program encourages agricultural education as a positive and promising career choice. During the five-day academy, students receive an overview of the OSU agricultural education teaching program, visit local agricultural education programs throughout the state, and receive a hands-on teaching experience.

There is a significant shortage of agricultural education instructors in Oklahoma and across the nation.

“The academy is an opportunity to showcase the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and agricultural education to the students,” said Jon Ramsey, agricultural education assistant professor and academy coordinator. “Students always come away excited to enter the classroom.”

After completing the program and enrolling as an agricultural education major at OSU, Johnston and Codding will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The program is sponsored by the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association, Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma, Eric and Tracie Chapman of Chapman Ranch, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Department of Career Tech Education, OK Steel & Wire, Sundowner

Trailers, Ag Youth Magazine, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and the Ernest and Helen Muncrief Memorial Trust. The selected members were honored on stage at the convention on Tuesday, April 26 in Oklahoma City.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. With more than 27,000 members and 359 chapters, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
