Guthrie golf learns regional destination; Jays to host

Both the Lady Jays and BlueJay golf teams have learned the course that stands between them and the state tournament as regional destinations were announced by the Oklahoma Secondary Secondary Activities Association.

The boy’s team, who is coached by Ric Meshew, will host 15 schools at Cedar Valley for one of the two Class 5A regionals on May 2nd. Meanwhile, the Lady Jays, coached by Mike Longstreth, will play the Lincoln West Golf Course, in Oklahoma City, on April 26th.

The Lady Jays will tee off at 9:00 a.m. while the Jays will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Joining the BlueJays for the 36 hole event will be Altus, Bishop McGuinness, Capitol Hill, Carl Albert, Chickasha, Deer Creek, Duncan, El Reno, Lawton MacArthur, Noble, Northwest Classen, Southeast, Thomas Edison, Western Heights, and Will Rogers. The East regional will be played at McAlester Country Club.

The boys state tournament will be played at Dornick Hills, in Ardmore, on May 9th and 10th with boys days starting at 8:00 a.m. The state tournament will be a 54 hole contest.

Bishop McGuinness is hosting the girls 18 hole regional and will feature schools from Altus, Ardmore, Capitol Hill, Carl Albert, Chickasha, Deer Creek, Duncan, El Reno, Guthrie, Lawton MacArthur, Noble, Northwest Classen, Shawnee, and Western Heights. The East regional will be played at Pryor Creek.

The Lady Jays will try to get back to the state tournament this season, where it will be held at Owasso’s Bailey Ranch on May 4th and 5th. The 36 hole event will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day.
