Guthrie hall of fame coach returns back to coaching

Guthrie Hall of Fame cross country coach Clay Tarter is back in the coaching ranks. His next adventure has landed him on the collegiate level.

Tarter was recently named he new head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.

Tarter coached in Guthrie for 38 years and helped the Lady Jays and Bluejays to nine state championships, including seven titles in cross country.

Tarter was named Cross Country Coach of the Year twice in 1993 and 2003. He was named the National High School Coaches Association’s Regional Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2008 and in 2010 was inducted into the Oklahoma Track Coaches Hall of Fame.

In 1994, Tarter was inducted into the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
