The Guthrie Police Department unveiled their first new Chevy Tahoe at the Heroes and Hot Rods Car Show. The police department was honored and were quick to thank their citizens.
The car show was held on Saturday in Jenks and proceeds help injured officers when they need it the most.
Several officers are injured in the line of duty and are unable to work either temporarily or indefinitely. The funds from the show helps support them.
The Guthrie police vehicle was outfitted just in time on Friday for the show.
Guthrie Police Officer Caleb Hodam showed off the patrol vehicle and came away with the first place trophy.
“We sure want to thank the many fine citizens of the City of Guthrie for passing the Capital Improvement Sales Tax and for making sure that the police department vehicles were among your priorities,” Police Chief Don Sweger said in a statement.
In February 2016, Guthrie citizens passed a three-quarter of a cent sales tax with a 15-year (June 30, 2031) sunset clause for capital improvements.
As part of the capital improvements, the police department purchased 10 new vehicles to help their struggling fleet.
The police units, which will come fully equipped with emergency equipment, were purchased by the Oklahoma Statewide Contract through Hudiburg Chevrolet. The total price tag for the complete 10 units is $720,330.00. The cost of each unit was $36,198 and $35,835 for the emergency equipment.
