Guthrie Superintendent reports school year off to a smooth start

Guthrie Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson says the 2017-18 school year is off to a smooth start as the central administrative office team toured each school building.

“Overall, we are very pleased with how this morning went,” Simpson said.

Traffic issues are always increased in the first few days of the school year with additional parents taking their children to school on the first day. Simpson said, “the ‘senior drive’ earlier seemed to make the traffic smoother than in past years.”

Throughout the city power outages and flashes have been occurring and seems to have caused an issue Friday morning with one school’s air conditioning.

“We have experienced some air conditioning issues at the Upper Elementary due in part to a power outage last night,” Simpson reported. “The system now appears to be functioning normally.”

The Superintendent was proud of the teachers as many students walked into a new school building for the first time.

“I was very impressed with our teachers and staff as they were providing orientation to our students,” Simpson concluded with.
