Guthrie woman dies in Washita County vehicle crash

A Guthrie woman has died from injuries she sustained in a two vehicle accident last week in Washita County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Callie Lynn Cortez succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, Aug. 21.

According to the OHP report, the wreck happened just before 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20 when the 2017 Ford Escape driven by Cortez was traveling southbound on State Highway 44, while a 2016 GMC Sierra was heading westbound on State Highway 152.

At the intersection of the highways, the Ford Escape failed to stop which resulted in the GMC Sierra crashing into it. Troopers identify the cause of the collision as “failure to stop at a stop sign.”

According to troopers, the Ford Escape rolled over one time. The passenger 23-year-old Christopher Michael Cortez, of Guthrie, was last listed to be in stable condition in OU Medical Center with a head injury.

The three people in the GMC Sierra were treated and released from an Elk City hospital.
