A Guthrie family is grieving following an accident on Interstate 35 that claimed a family members life Thursday morning.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Kristen Benham, 24, died at the scene of a two vehicle accident four miles north of Guthrie (mile marker 162) in northern Logan County.

According to the trooper’s report, Benham was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on Interstate 35. She departed the roadway left, striking the cable barrier and entered the southbound lanes of Interstate 35.

The Dodge truck struck a 2018 Kenworth tractor causing both vehicles to catch fire.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Troopers say both drivers were wearing their seatbelt.

The highway was shut down for nearly five hours as traffic was diverted off the highway and through Guthrie.
