Several cats are dead and a Guthrie home is considered a total loss after a fire broke out twice in less than 24 hours.
The Guthrie Fire Department was initially called to the home on N. Ash Tuesday night. After the first fire, officials believed the home might be salvageable, although it was not considered safe to live in. The homeowners moved next door with family members.
The fire reignited early Wednesday morning, prompting firefighters to return to the residence.
The fire department was dispatched to the 1300 block of N. Ash shortly after 6:15 a.m. Wednesday for a smoke investigation. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire conditions with flames already venting through the roof.
Firefighters initially made an offensive attack but were later forced to evacuate the structure because of a roof collapse. No firefighters were injured.
At least four cats died in the fires. No family members were injured.
Fire officials believe the fire had been extinguished following the initial response and used a thermal camera to check the home for remaining heat and fire.
Following the second fire, the home is now considered a total loss.
Automatic aid from Oak Cliff and Crescent fire departments assisted the local department, along with Guthrie Police, and Logan County Emergency Management.
