I-35 ramps, Waterloo Rd. lanes narrow April 3 for traffic signal project

The southbound I-35 off-ramp to Waterloo Rd. near Edmond will be narrowed to one lane beginning April 3 when an additional turn lane will be added to the ramp, according to Oklahoma County Commissioner Ray Vaughn. Additionally, the northbound I-35 off-ramp to Waterloo Rd. will narrow intermittently through April for striping and the installation of a temporary traffic signal to ease traffic congestion.

Intermittent lane closures also will occur on Waterloo Rd. at the I-35 ramps through mid-summer for the installation of temporary traffic signals that will be maintained in partnership with Oklahoma and Logan counties. At least one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Waterloo Rd. throughout the project.

Traffic & Lighting Systems LLC of Oklahoma City was awarded the $284,000 temporary traffic signal installation contract in February. Weather permitting, the project is expected to complete by mid-summer 2017.

Permanent traffic signals will be installed during an estimated $32 million construction project tentatively scheduled for FFY 2021. That project will reconstruct the I-35 and Waterloo Rd. interchange as a diverging diamond design and add lanes to Waterloo Rd. to accommodate existing and future traffic needs.
