Playing for the fifth straight day with a sixth day perhaps awaiting, the BlueJay baseball team suffered their fifth loss of the season on day three of the Choctaw Tournament.

Guthrie dropped an 8-2 decision to Bishop McGuinness in a 5A top 10 showdown. The Irish, who entered this week ranked eighth, improved to 11-9 on the season while Guthrie, ranked number 10, falls to 13-5 on the season and 1-2 in the four-day tourney.

Guthrie will play tournament host Choctaw 4:00 Saturday afternoon. The Jays finished in the top three with Stillwater and the OKC Broncos. McGuinness was the odd team out in the pool play format due to the tie breaker of least amount of runs allowed.

Freshmen Reed Roberts suffered the loss on the mound and falls to 4-2 on the year despite holding the Irish scoreless in the first four innings.

McGuinness erupted in the fifth inning with six runs and followed that with two more in the sixth. Before the eruption of runs, Guthrie gathered two runs in the home half of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

Junior’s Scott Pickle and Luke Davis each collected two hits on the day while Hayden Seifert and Bryan Dutton each collected RBIs.
