The Guthrie High School Lady Jays soccer team is now one victory away from qualifying for the playoffs.

With a win, it would mark the first time in program history to qualify for the playoffs in two straight seasons.

On their trip to El Reno on Tuesday night, the Lady Jays performed one of their best offensive games of the season by beating the Lady Indians 8-4.

A hat trick by Shyla Ellis, two goals by Emma Taylor and a goal each from Mercy Dement, Emily Teherst, and Mikayla Williams composed the Lady Jays victory.

With the convincing win, the Lady Jays, now 6-4 overall on the year, are riding a three-game winning streak that lands them in third place in district with a 3-2 record with two games remaining.

McGuinness leads the district standings with a 3-0 record and followed closely by Carl Albert (3-1).

On Friday night, the Lady Jays will look to secure their spot in the 5A playoffs when they host Del City on Senior Night.
