Latest severe weather information for Logan County

Updated at 1:30 p.m. — There are still several unknowns for this afternoon with the threat of severe weather.

Logan County Emergency Manager David Ball says storms could begin arriving sooner than 4 p.m. if they start forming in southwest Oklahoma.

Logan County remains in the moderate risk area to see severe storms.

A Tornado Watch was issued for a good part of western Oklahoma, but did not include Logan County. However, Ball says one could be issued for Logan County later this afternoon.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the county until 7 a.m. Saturday.

“We could see up to 3-5 inches of rain by Saturday morning,” Ball said.

The Guthrie Police Department (GPD) and the Guthrie Fire Department are encouraging everyone to be weather aware today and tomorrow.

That National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms are expected to develop rapidly this afternoon (Thursday) across western Oklahoma. The storms will shift gradually east with time, affecting central and eastern Oklahoma later in the afternoon and evening.

The threat of tornadoes have not been ruled out with the latest forecasts.

As of 11 a.m. on Thursday, there are several uncertainties of the beginning of the storms. At 10:30 a.m. the weather service stated determining exactly when and where storms occur today (Thursday) remains a challenge. Latest guidance overall has been suggesting an earlier start for storm initiation with first storms forming across southwestern Oklahoma and western north Texas around noon.

“Make sure you are weather aware and weather prepared. If you are headed out this afternoon, make sure you check the latest RADAR and forecast models,” a spokesperson from GPD said.

The fire department says to have a plan before the potential weather arrives.

“Please make a plan this morning and be ready to act this afternoon. Waiting until a tornado warning is issued is not the time to make a plan. Charge your phone, have a go-bag ready to go with necessary items, monitor local weather reports and just be weather aware.”
