Logan County fire departments return to OKC wildfire’s

Update: Logan County fire departments returned back to Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening to battle the large grass fires that started on Tuesday.

300 firefighters battle the wildfires on Wednesday, including Guthrie and surrounding Logan County firefighters. At the end of the day at least 17 houses, five mobile homes and one church was destroyed. Three houses suffered major damage and one house had minor damage. Eight houses were labeled as having slight damage.

Fire crews battled the 105 degree heat with south winds at 22 miles per hour with gusts up to 28 miles per hour.

A total of 27 Logan County people responded to the blazes according to Logan County Emergency Management David Ball.

“We left I-35 and Waterloo about 5:30 pm on Wednesday and all units were back in town by 7 am Thursday morning,” Ball said.

Units from Logan County included Guthrie command 200, Guthrie Engine 1, brush pumpers from Sooner, Meridian, Twin Lakes, Coyle, Marshall, Oak Cliff, Crescent and Woodcrest along with tankers from Sooner and Meridian.

The state saw multiple fires in addition to Oklahoma City that led to interstates and turnpikes being shut down for a period of time.

Many residents are still waiting to get back into their Oklahoma City homes after a wildfire scorched houses and land in a 12-square-mile area. The Logan County fire task force aided the Oklahoma City firefighters.

Logan County responded with brush pumpers from Guthrie, Oak Cliff, Twin Lakes, Crescent, Meridian, and Coyle along with a Coyle and Woodcrest tanker.”The guys left about 4:15 pm and were back in town about 1:30 am,” Logan County Emergency Management David Ball said.Ball reminds all residents that Logan County is in a Red Flag Fire Warning. “People need to be very careful.”The wildfire that started Tuesday continues to burn in Oklahoma City, as firefighters battle wind, heat and flare-ups. A fire spokeswoman said the latest damage toll is 33 houses and mobile homes destroyed by the fire.
