A portion of Highway 77 will be renamed Deputy Sheriff David Wade Memorial Highway.
On Friday, Governor Mary Fallin signed Senate Bill 166 into law.
State Representative John Pfeiffer (R-Orlando) added the floor amendment to the bill on April 24.
The Deputy Sheriff David Wade Memorial Highway will begin at the municipal limits on the south side of Mulhall and extending southward to the municipal limits on the north side of Guthrie
The law will become effective November 1, 2017.
“I am proud that we can honor this brave man in such a way that we may never forget his sacrifice,” Pfeiffer said.
Deputy Wade was serving an eviction notice at a residence when he was shot and killed by a suspect, who was later captured following a manhunt.
“The tragic loss of Deputy Wade shocked the county and the state,” Pfeiffer said.
Wade was born in Guthrie. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard, and was deployed to Bosnia as part of global peacekeeping missions. He attended the University of Central Oklahoma before embarking on his career in law enforcement. He was an officer for the Cashion Police Department before becoming a Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy.
I think this is wonderful way to honor Deputy Wade as well as keeping his memory alive.
