The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said their final farewell to Chief Deputy Richard Stephens, who resigned his post after accepting the Chief of Police for the town of Union City on Feb. 9.
Surrounded by fellow and surrounding agency colleagues, Stephens thanked each person who stopped by to wish him good luck with his post as well as thanks for the past six years at the Sheriff’s Office.
“It was a tough decision,” Stephens said.
“I have many thanks for all of the opportunities and experience that Sheriff (Jim) Bauman and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office have provided. One of the aspects of my job over the last few years that I am most proud of is that I have been able to help a lot of people start and move forward in their law enforcement careers.”
Stephens served as a big role when it came to day-to-day jail operations, over-looking the federal prison system, grant writer and public information officer to name a few.
“We are going to miss Rich,” Sheriff Bauman said. “I have known him for over 20 years and he will be a great police chief.”
Stephens says the town of Union City, located in Canadian County, is looking for more transparency and structure and is was something he was ready to pursue.
Stephens plans to move to Union City once school is out in May.
