Softball season ends at state tournament; Piedmont scores late

The Guthrie Lady Jays got out of several jams in the first five innings on Thursday, but Piedmont rallied in the final two innings to eliminate Guthrie from the Class 5A Fast-Pitch Softball State Tournament.

Guthrie jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Eadie Jobe started the inning with a single to center and was moved over with a sacrifice bunt from Addy Awbrey. Senior Trenda LeGrande singled down the third base line to bring Jobe across the plate.

Guthrie held the 1-0 lead until the sixth inning.

Piedmont picked up two runs in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly and single to take a 2-1 lead and added an insurance in the seventh at The Ballfields at Firelake in Shawnee.

Karrah Dean, who was intentionally walked in each of her four at bats, finished with 13 strikeouts in the circle, despite Piedmont getting their lead off hitter on base in five of the seven innings.

Guthrie finished with five hits (all singles) from LeGrande, Karlie Huffer, Jobe, Taylor Bolding and Elaina Clark.

The Lady Jays finish the season at 23-6 .
