Speeds reach 160 mph in stolen motorcycle pursuit; suspect surprised he was caught

An early morning high speed pursuit with a stolen motorcycle has landed one man in jail. The suspect told an officer he could not believe he was caught.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sgt. Mark Swartzbaugh with the Guthrie Police Department spotted a blue Honda motorcycle in downtown Guthrie and was advised the motorcycle was reported stolen out of Stillwater. As the officer attempted to pull the motorcycle over, the driver accelerated and took off for Interstate 35.

Once northbound on the highway, the officer says the motorcycle was pulling away as speeds reached easily over 120 mph.

Officer Erik Lamb took the lead in the chase and tracked down the motorcycle as it began losing power near mile marker 167.

Jeremy Alix Criss, 31, of Oklahoma City was taken into custody.

As Criss was being transported to the police department, he told Sgt. Swartzbaugh he could not believe they caught him because he was going over 160 mph.

Officers found an unused syringe on the motorcycle and inside Criss’ backpack several items were found, including an open bottle of Vodka, syringes (tested positive for meth), a pipe containing marijuana residue, a scale with white residue and a pry bar.

Criss, who had a suspended driver’s license, has prior convictions of larceny, assault and battery and escape from an officer. Just this past May, he pled guilty to stealing several items worth over $300 from a Payne County Wal Mart. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
