It has been a busy year already for Logan County fire departments battling grass fires. The latest wildfire not only charred up 80 acres, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.

IMG_4003Sooner Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched Thursday morning (just after 9:30 a.m.) to the east side of I-35 and north of the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Camp Rd.

The north winds pushed the fire to the south. Thankfully, there were no structures in immediate danger of the fire. Firefighters caught a break when the fire made its way to a tree line and began to slow down.

Fire departments from Woodcrest, Guthrie, Coyle and Oak Cliff assisted with the open field fire.

Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow says approximately 80 acres burned and the cause of the flare up is “suspicious.”
