TIG donates for GHS students to attend OK Wildlife Expo

Students in Scott Mick’s Adventure Sports Class at Guthrie High School will be attending The Oklahoma Wildlife Expo on Friday at the Lazy E Arena. The field trip is made possible through a donation by Terra Insure Group to cover the cost of a substitute teacher, who will stand in for Coach Mick in his other teaching duties.

Managing Agent Seth Robbins said that the donation was a no-brainer for the agency due to the partners’ love of the outdoors.

“Our founders, Richard Yurich and Jason Hirzel, are avid sportsmen who actually own a game preserve, agent Dennis Ochs (also the public address announcer at all home Guthrie football games) lives to bird hunt and I grew up a huge fisherman so to give just a little bit so these kids can experience all that the Expo has to offer is an easy choice for us.”

The OK Wildlife Expo, produced by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday (26 and 27th). On Friday, the expo will hold a “School Day” where students from across Oklahoma travel to attend the event.

Inside the students learn about Oklahoma’s wildlife species, habitats and wildlife management while visiting hands-on exhibits and booths. Outside, students can learn to identify Oklahoma birds, visit a living historical encampment, identify wildlife tracks and signs, start a fire without matches, catch a fish, learn about dog training, ride a mountain bike, shoot a bow or shotgun and much more.
