United Way awards Venture Grant to Smart Start of Logan County

Making the Christmas holidays even better, the United Way of Logan County announced the distribution of over $22,000 in “Venture Grants” to four agencies for specific programs to enhance communities in Logan County.

“We had 10 great proposals that met our criteria of being 501(C)-(3); presented an audited financial statement and identified a specific program or project that would be supported by the grant,” Chuck Hayes, Chairman of the committee that reviewed the applications said.

“After comparing the applications to our identified needs throughout the county, we selected four programs and are excited to see the outcomes from these funding additions.”

One program is Smart Start of Logan/Kingfisher County.

Shayla Simpson, Smart Start Community Coordinator noted, “we are pleased to receive this grant that will fund the “Rookie Roundup” program which focuses on providing preliminary health screening as well as a full package of school supplies for children entering pre-kindergarten programs in Crescent, Mulhall, Coyle and Guthrie schools.”

“It gives these youngsters all the “tools” to assist in their early educational development and a health benchmark point for physical development.  It really is a “Smart Start” for them!  We are thankful to the United Way for making this opportunity possible,” Simpson concluded with.
