First Round Consolations and Semifinals
Dane Jenkins
The fourth time was not the charm for Dane Jenkins.
Piedmont’s Josh Heindselman collected his fourth win over Jenkins this season and moves to the finals with a 43-2 record.
After a scoreless first period, Jenkins recorded an escape to go up 1-0. Just over 40 seconds later Heindselman picked up a take down to go up 2-1. Jenkins got the escape and we headed to the final period 2-2.
Jenkins moves to the consolation semifinals on Saturday.

Kurgan Cornwell
When it looked so promising, Kurgan Cornwell’s state championship dreams came to a halt. Really quickly.
Cornwell faced the top seed from the east in Cougar Andersen from Skiatook. The freshmen is now 42-4.
Cornwell started the scoring in the second period. Anderson took neutral to give him a 1-0 lead and followed that with a take down with 38 seconds left to go up 3-0. Anderson quickly escaped to make it 3-1.
Cornwell went neutral to give Anderson a point, 3-2, and with 1:06 left in the match Anderson took Cornwell down and quickly turned it into a pin at the 4:54 mark.
Cornwell, a three time state qualifier, falls into the consolation semifinals on Saturday with a 34-7 record.

Alex Fields
Glenpool’s Tyson Stevens, two seed from the east, secured a reverse with only 32 seconds left in the third period to tie the match at 5-all.
However, Fields needed only 12 seconds in the extra period to collect a take down and a trip to the 113 pound state championship match.
The last Bluejay to wrestle for a state championship was Alex Nelson.
Fields jump out to a 2-1 lead and eventually a 5-1 lead.

JB Simpson
JB Simpson’s season come to an end on Friday evening with a 5-0 setback to Duncan’s Stephen Culberson.
Culberson settled in with a take down in the first period and continued to control the match.
Simpson was 33-14 on the season.

Caleb Nelson
Caleb Nelson got the Friday evening session started for the Bluejays as five Jays will hit the mat.
Nelson secured his only two points of the match 1:16 in, but that would be all he would need.
Nelson started down for period two and was unable to escape and stayed on the mat for the two minutes.
In the third, Nelson cut Glenpool’s Mason Watts, the five seed from the east, 34 seconds in and was able to keep him away for the final 1:26.
Two seeded Nelson (29-11) is now 1-1 in the tourney and will return on Saturday for the consolation semifinals. It will be a rematch of the regional finals, which Nelson dropped in double overtime last weekend.

First round action and notes
Freshmen Bryndun Herendeen, who finished third at regionals last week, did not make weight by .02 and will not be able to compete at State.
Dean Madison
Freshmen Dean Madison dropped his match to his Glenpool opponent after suffering a second round pin.
Madison caps off a 20-10 season.

Allen Tomlinson
At 145 pounds, Allen Tomlinson, who entered the tournament as the fifth seed got off to a great start against his Durant opponent by collecting three take downs in the first period to take a 6-3 lead.
In the second period, Tomlinson chose down and could not get to his feet and suffered the pin with 27 seconds remaining.
Tomlinson, a senior, finishes his season at 22-17.

Michael Miller
Michael Miller in just his second year wrestling suffered a pin after leading 6-3.
His opponent was able to pick up a reverse and the eventual win.
Miller finishes the season at 34-12.

Alex Fields
Alex Fields, the top-seeded wrestler from the west, controlled majority of his match in a 6-4 win over his Ada opponent.
Fields got an early take down in the first period and lead 2-1.
In the second, Fields started down and picked up a reverse eight seconds in to take a 4-1 lead and a 4-2 lead into the final period.
After an escape 13 seconds in, Fields lead was down to one, 4-3, but Fields scored another take down at the 1:17 mark to go up 6-3 and eventually holding on for the first round win.
Fields (34-3), pictured below, will face Tyson Stevens (33-11), of Glenpool, in the next round.

Caleb Nelson
It was a tough first round draw for junior Caleb Nelson as he squared off Ty Nohelty of McALester.
Nohelty, who is now 26-2 on the year, picked up a take down 1:34 into the first and led 2-0.
After a scoreless second period with Nelson starting down, Nelson, the two-seed from the west, cut Nohelty to go down 3-0 with 58 seconds left.
Nelson (28-11) got a take down 23 seconds later, but could not score another and dropped his first round match, 4-2.

Kurgan Cornwell
The state tournament could not have gotten off to a better start for Kurgan Cornwell, who is appearing in his third state tournament.
The senior, who is the two seed from the west, scored a take down just 11 seconds into the match and added another with :02 left to take a first period lead 4-1.
In the second period, Cornwell allowed an escape 60 seconds in, but controlled the period.
With Cornwell down to begin the third, he was able to escape 12 second in and hold on for a 5-2 win over Bishop Kelley’s Collin Elias.
Cornwell is now 34-6 on the season and advances to the second round.

Dane Jenkins
Despite a one point win, senior Dane Jenkins never seem threaten in his first round match with Pryor’s Trey Carnes.
After neither wrestler went down to the mat in the first period, Jenkins picked up a reversed to start the second period and would end the period ahead 2-0.
Carnes collected an escape early in the third, but was unable to draw any closer despite a couple of late shot attempts.
Jenkins, making his third state tournament appearance, moves on to the second round with a 26-7 record.

JB Simpson
JB Simpson lost his feet once in the first period and it was good enough for Coweta’s Dakota McCaleb.
The pin came 1:35 into the period.
Simpson, now 33-13, will move on to the consolation side of the bracket.
