A Crescent man was formally arraigned on Tuesday afternoon for assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The victim in the case was stabbed in the chest.
Leon Emory Pannell Jr. appeared by video from the Logan County Jail in front of Judge Susan Worthington. The judge set his bond at a million dollars.
Pannell, 42, is accused of stabbing a male in the chest last Thursday with a four inch blade and in the process nicking a portion of the victim’s heart.
The victim was rushed to OU Medical Center and required open heart surgery. He remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit as of Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Property Lane located northwest of Cimarron City in Logan County. Upon arrival they had learn that Pannell and the victim had been in an argument, according to a female witness at the home.

Once Pannell saw a deputy he went inside the home and came back out holding a folding knife. He was instructed to put the knife down, which he complied and was placed into custody without further incident.
Detectives say blood could be seen throughout the home as well as on the outside.
Authorities said they found what appeared to be blood on Pannell’s jeans when he was being processed at the jail.
Pannell is set to be back in court on Sept. 28.
