Original article on May 3, 2017 — The Guthrie city council approved to solicit bids for the 5th Street storm water drainage after it had completely collapsed in 2016. The estimated cost for the project is $226,071, according to the City’s engineer.

In Nov. 2016, the Street Committee discussed the collapse drain, which occurred in July 2016, just south of the 5th Street bridge. City workers with the Street Department ran a camera down the drain and saw the total collapse of the pipe. Repairs to the street were made, but nothing had been done to repair the drainage under the street.

The 17 foot drain collects water from nearby streets and alleys and empties in the Cottonwood Creek.

The project will be funded by the capital improvements fund with some of the funding coming from funds set aside for the swimming pool, basketball courts and tennis courts in City parks to allow funding for the project. City officials quickly said the courts and swimming pool will continue.

The estimated breakdown in cost, includes $188,393.09 in construction cost and $37,678.62 in contingencies and fees.
