One person was arrested on Tuesday after several gun shots were heard by a Guthrie police officer and other citizens who called 911. The action required schools to go into a lock out.
Central Elementary, Fogarty Elementary, Guthrie Junior High School and St. Mary’s Catholic School were placed in the lockout at approximately 10:45 a.m. Within minutes, police found two males in the 200 block of W. College (near Fogarty Elementary).
According to a police report, two men met up to discuss trading a pistol for a vehicle.
One of those men, whose name was redacted in the report, says he spoke with Perrydon Jackson about making the trade deal.
Jackson presented the pistol to the man, but the man wanted to test fire the gun before making the trade and fired off the weapon in a wooded area, according to the report.
Officers recovered a Wesson 9mm inside a holster with an extra magazine with 15 live rounds inside the man’ s vehicle. Upon further investigation, the serial number on the gun was scratched off and unable to read.
Jackson was placed into custody for a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with altered or removed serial number.
In February of this year, Jackson pleaded guilty to four charges, including use of a vehicle in discharging of a weapon, concealing stolen property, drugs and second degree burglary.
At that time, Jackson was given a seven year sentence with the Department of Corrections with all that time suspended upon good behavior.
On Wednesday, Jackson was charged with possession of a firearm after former conviction of two or more felonies.
He was given a $50,000 bond and a May 23 court date.
Online records show Jackson in the Logan County Jail as of Thursday afternoon.
