The Guthrie BlueJay baseball team have made themselves feel right at home in Ardmore this week with three wins coming via the run rule and now will play in the finals at 6:00 Saturday evening.

Landry Chappell has made a nice transition into baseball since being crowned a wrestling State Champ.

After starting the Ardmore Spring Break Tournament with a 24-0 win over Santa Fe South, the Jays added two more wins on Friday afternoon. In the first game at 10 a.m., Guthrie took down Latta 14-3 and then turned around and defeated Madill 13-0. Both games went the minimum five innings.

Guthrie improves to 5-2 overall this season and will playAda in the finals. A season ago the Jays were 2-1 in the rain shorten tournament.

Freshmen pitcher Reed Roberts collected his second win of the season by pitching all five innings and scattering three hits and striking out six.

Bryan Dutton started the game with a triple and later scored on a Hayden Seifert sac fly. Later in the inning Luke Davis, who reached on an error, scored on a Landry Chappell single to give the team a 2-0 lead.

Latta scratched three runs across in the second inning, but Guthrie put a three spot of their own in the third. Once again, it was Dutton getting things going by leading off the inning with his third and team leading home run of the season as the first six Jays reached base. John Clark and Hunter Gates each collected an RBI to help secure the lead for good.

Guthrie put the game out of reach for good in the fourth with eight runs on four hits. Chappell highlighted the inning by smashing a 2-run home run for his second round tripper this season.

Chappell, Dutton, Seifert, and Scott Pickle all had multi hit games led by Chappell’s 3-for-4 outing.  Seifert led the charge with a total of four RBIs to increase his team high to 14 this season.
