Bluejays set personal bests at powerlifting state tournament

The Guthrie High School power lifting team competed in the state tournament over the weekend at Prague High School. The Jays finished runner-up in Class 5A with Durant winning the team title.

The Jays are led by coaches Kelly Beeby, Eric Woodard and Chad Sanders. The state-wide powerlifting is overlooked by the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association.

Individually, the Jays qualified six athletes with each accomplishing at least one personal best.

Justin Dutton in the heavyweight class qualified in the 8th position and finished in fifth place overall in the state. He had a 430 pound squat, 320 pound bench where he finished fifth in the class and a 600 pound deadlift, which was good for third in the class; totaling 1350 pounds with two personal bests.

Dalton Freshour in the super heavyweight class qualified in the 15th position and finished seventh overall in the state. He had a 485 pound squat, 335 pound bench, which was good enough for first in his division, and 500 pound deadlift totaling 1320 lbs. The senior finished with three personal bests.

Seth Dean in the 220 pound weight class qualified in the 13th position and finished 12th overall in the state. He had a 420 pound squat, 275 pound bench, and a 505 pound deadlift totaling 1200 pound with one personal best.

Caed Guggisburg in the 132 pound weight class qualified in 21st position and finished 14th overall in the state. He had a 260 pound squat, 140 pound bench and a 290 pound deadlift totaling 690 pound with one new personal best.

Brant Machtolff in the 123 pound weight class qualified in 22nd position and finished 20th overall in the state. He had a 240 pound Squat, 165 pound bench, and 280 pound deadlift totaling 685 pound with one new personal best.

Caleb Sanders in the 168 pound weight class qualified in the 30th position and finished 21st overall in the state. He had a 360 pound squat, 230 pound bench, and a 405 pound deadlift totaling 995 pound with two new personal bests.
