The Noble Bears Freshmen football squad felt confident in their rematch with Guthrie in the Suburban Conference Championship game, but the Jays were just as motivated.
Noble upset the Jays 20-14, on October 11th, and that did not settle well with the Jays and they showed it with a 26-7 win over the Bears to claim the conference championship. The game was played at Western Heights High School.
The Bears, who traveled a great deal of fans that the varsity Bears team would appreciate to have on a Friday night, never held a lead and did not score until the final quarter.
Guthrie got on the board first with an 8-yard run by Kai Callins and found the end zone one last time in the first half with a defensive play.
Defensive back Jacob Chappell made a great play on the Bears quarterback, who serves as the varsity quarterback as well, and took the interception to the house for a 45-yard touchdown.
The Jays built up a 13-0 halftime lead.
The first score in the second half came from Callins to Chappell. The duo combined for a 40-yard connection to make a statement score. The final score came on the ground from 10-yards out with another score for Callins.
Noble found the end zone in the fourth quarter, but it was far too late.
The freshmen conclude the season with a 7-2 record and finished the season on a three-game winning streak.
Jon Chappell and Robbie Rainwater served as the coaches for the 2010 season.
