It was not a perfect ending for Guthrie High School students and staff last week, but it was a night they will remember for quite some time.

GHS students, along with principals Chris LeGrande (right) and Dusty Throckmorton (left) and teacher Kim Barrett got a close up of the Thunder and Nets last week.

As the point guard for the Brooklyn Nets, Joe Johnson, was hitting a buzzer beater against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the members of the high school were up close and personal to see the daggering shot fall through the hoop. Well, if you consider right behind the home team’s bench.

12 high school students, along with Principal Chris LeGrande, Asst. Principal Dusty Throckmorton and District Teacher of the Year Kim Barrett, saw Johnson score 29 points in a 95-93 Nets win.

Barrett was honored by the Thunder’s teacher of the game in the first quarter with the public address announcer making the announcement to the sell-out crowd.

After Barrett received the news of the Thunder honoring her accomplishments, she contacted their office and requested tickets for some of her students. The Thunder took her up on that offer and then some more.

Each ticket was donated by a Thunder player, who participates in a program set up by the players who spend their own money to purchase the tickets for kids. Along with the free ticket, the students received a T-shirt commemorating the event.
