A driver was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital Wednesday morning following a single vehicle accident. Emergency officials said the accident could have been a much different story.
Crews were called out to Pine St., north of Kiwanis Field, for a single vehicle accident just before 7: 30 a.m.
Guthrie EMS officials were just blocks away when the call was dispatched and immediately requested a medical helicopter as they first arrived to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency crews saw a two-door truck with a guardrail that had pierced the front, gone through the cab and the entire length of the truck bed.
Officials said the truck was traveling south when it departed the roadway, for an unknown reason, and struck the guardrail.
The helicopter was canceled and a 17-year-old male was transported by Guthrie EMS to Integris Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Pine St. was closed down for several minutes between College St. and Hillcrest Road as the accident scene was cleared up.
That whole stretch is a tragedy waiting to happen. It’s a miracle that no pedestrians have been killed there, especially with students walking home, families attending events at Kiwanis Field, and residents of the area walking to the store at night. There are no lights, no sidewalks, and no stops along the way.
I am so glad Dalton lived through this and my daughter was not with him. That faulty guardrail is grounds for a lawsuit.
