Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport completes $5.7 Million taxiway improvement project

The Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport (GOK) has announced the completion of its Taxiway Realignment and Lighting Project, a major infrastructure improvement designed to enhance safety and support future growth at the regional airport.

The $5.7 million project was funded primarily through a combination of federal and state grants and included the reconstruction and realignment of approximately 3,750 feet of parallel taxiway to meet current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards.

“This project is a significant investment in the future of GOK,” Airport Director Caden Young said. “For more than two decades, the airport operated with a taxiway configuration that did not meet federal design standards. Through strong partnerships with the FAA, the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, and the cities of Guthrie and Edmond, we were able to deliver a project that will benefit airport users for decades to come.”

Construction was completed by Contech, Inc., while engineering and design services were provided by Parkhill. Airport officials said the work was completed using a phased construction approach that allowed airport operations to continue safely while minimizing disruptions to users.

Guthrie City Manager Eddie Faulkner said the project represents another important step in strengthening the airport’s role in the region.

“GOK continues to serve as a critical transportation asset and economic driver for our region,” Faulkner said. “We appreciate the partnership of the FAA, ODAA, Parkhill, and the many stakeholders who helped make this project possible.”

In addition to the taxiway improvements, the project included completion of the first phase of a future terminal apron. Airport officials said completing this work now will prevent future taxiway closures when construction begins on a new terminal facility.

Construction on the airport’s new terminal and terminal apron is expected to begin later this fall.

Airport officials plan to celebrate the completion of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the near future.
