Guthrie Football enjoys successful 2017 youth football camp

For the football campers in the 16th annual BlueJay Football Youth Camp, they got to feel what it’s like to go through football drills in the early part of the season and what it’s like to do those drills come playoff time.

Athletes in the second grade through the seventh grade took advantage of the mild May weather on Wednesday at the Guthrie High School practice field. However on Thursday, the weather turned cooler and represented what they will see when the playoffs roll around when they arrive to the Friday night lights.

Jays head football coach Kelly Beeby was once again excited for the turnout with approximately 150 campers each day.

The athletes went through offensive and defensive drills with both the high school and junior high coaching staffs along with members of the varsity football team.

Beeby says his coaching staff and players enjoying giving back to the youth, but also the camp allows them the ability to continue success through the teaching of the future Jays.

Beeby and the staff displayed structure and discipline in the camp, in which the young athletes seem to take pride in.

The camp was broken up into two groups with the incoming junior high players going through specific drills and terminology for both on offense and defense.

For the smaller campers, they went through each of the offensive and defensive drills to learn each position for when they get older they will know more about each spot.

Beeby added the more multiple a player can be the more productive they will be to their teammates and to themselves.
