The Guthrie BlueJay football team was impressive in their 2010 season opener with a convincing 25-0 win over the Duncan Demons. Both squads were ranked in the top four in the preseason polls, but how did the other Jays opponents hold up in week one?

Overall, the nine opponents manage just a 3-6 record.

Ponca City 32, Sapulpa 34

Sapulpa played with mixed emotions in this game, in Ponca City, as earlier in the week the Chieftains lost their teammate Justin Fizpatrick in a car accident. However, Sapulpa held on late to secure the win.

Enid 24, Tulsa Kelley 7

The Plainsmen went to Tulsa in week one and never trailed after scoring on their first possession of the game by going 80 yards. Running back Jonathan Burton finished with 19 carries for 99 yards while quarterback Alex Patterson was 11-of-24 passing for 155 yards and two touchdown passes. Burton led all receivers with five catches for 77 yards.

Enid hosts 6A power Midwest City and then the Jays before starting district play.

Deer Creek 35, Piedmont 14

The Antlers took a 14-0 into the locker room and piled on 28 more points in the second half to collect their first win of the season. Running back Colten Sander rushed for three touchdowns, including a long run of 79-yards, as the Antlers finished with 355 rushing yards.

Ada 7, Ardmore 28

In one of the greater rivalries in the state, it was Ardmore coming away in the 87 meeting. Ardmore’s offense was good for 392 rushing yards with 214 of those coming from senior running back Andra Brown

Noble 7, Tecumseh 39

Tecumseh quarterback Kyle Fowler ran for two touchdowns and passed for three more to Francisco Hukill as the Savages opened the 2010 season with a 39-7 rout of host Noble. The Bears only score came late in the game.

Carl Albert 10, Tulsa Washington 12

The Hornets held off the Titans in the clash of the last two 5A state champions, but Booker T. held their breath as the Titans attempted a game winning 38-yard field goal with less than a minute.

Carl Albert could only muster 186 yards of offense (144 rushing), but Booker T. managed only 180 total yards in the defensive tug-of-war.

El Reno 13, Woodward 26

The win was Woodward’s first over El Reno since 2007. The Boomers dominated most of the game and built a 26-6 lead before a late score.

The Boomers had over 400 yards in total offense and El Reno’s Devante Moore scored both touchdowns for the Indians.

Western Heights 13, Harrah 40

The Jets scored a pair of passing touchdowns by Jets quarterback Kenny Mayfield, but proved to be not enough against Harrah. The Jets defense allowed 306 rushing yards while only compiling 71 rushing yards themselves.

Southeast 39, U.S. Grant 6
