The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed the reason why an airplane crashed in a Guthrie neighborhood last October that claimed one life.
According to the NTSB report, the plane flown by Darrell Smittle was fueled for a trip to Arkansas but wasn’t filled up for the return flight.
Smittle, 62, was from Edmond and died on impact. His son and grandson, Darrell Stewart Smittle and Joshua Smittle, survived. Related story: Plane crash in Guthrie kills one; two survivors
A preliminary report last year stated the plane’s right fuel tank was not operable and the left tank was empty. The report went on to say the aircraft’s fuel selector was set on the empty left tank. Related story: Fuel tank empty in Guthrie crash
On the return trip, the engine lost power just east of I-35 near Highway 105, colliding with electric power lines before crashing.
Spot on with this write-up, I honestly believe this site needs
