ONG seeks rate increase; public hearing set for June 12

Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, a division of ONE Gas, Inc., has filed an application with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) requesting approval of a rate increase under its Performance Based Rate Change Plan (PBRC). The company is seeking a base rate increase of approximately $41.5 million to recover rising business costs and recent infrastructure investments.

According to the company’s filing, the proposed rate increase would result in an average monthly bill increase of approximately $3.24 for residential customers and $1.03 for residential low-income customers. This adjustment reflects an estimated $272 million in capital investments made since the last rate review period, which ended December 31, 2023.

Additionally, Oklahoma Natural is requesting approval for an accounting change aligned with IRS guidance, an energy efficiency program true-up for 2024, utility incentive adjustments, and modifications to its tariffs.

As part of continued compliance with the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Oklahoma Natural will also issue a one-time annual credit in 2025 from excess deferred income taxes (EDIT), totaling $13.24 million. This will result in a $13.39 credit for the average residential customer and a $3.96 credit for residential low-income customers, applied in February 2026.

When factoring in all proposed adjustments, including the EDIT credit, the total estimated monthly bill impact is expected to be an increase of $2.12 for the average residential customer and $0.70 for residential low-income customers.

Following public comments, a formal hearing on the merits will also begin on June 12 and will continue as needed until the review concludes. The Commission will then issue a final decision on the request.

A public comment hearing on the proposal will be held at 10 a.m. on June 12 at the Concourse Theater in Oklahoma City, located in the underground tunnel between the Will Rogers Memorial and Sequoyah Memorial Office Buildings. All interested individuals are encouraged to attend and voice their input. Written comments may also be submitted by mail to the OCC or via email to PUDenergy@occ.ok.gov, with the subject line “Attention: Public Comment PUD2025-000011.”
