Richard Brothers looking toward football season

Richard Brothers could be a great target for Bryan Dutton come fall on the gridiron.

Guthrie freshmen Richard Brothers recently attended Schuman’s National Underclassmen Combine in Duncanville, TX where he came away with the MVP honor at the wide receiver position. Here is the post combine interview Brothers had following the combine.

Coach Schuman: What did you do to prepare for the National Underclassmen Combine?
Richard Brothers: Well, my uncle told me that there was an upcoming camp. But, when he told me I was still in basketball. So, I told him I would stay after my basketball practices and lift weights and work on getting prepared. So from the day he told me to the day of the camp, I continued to life weights after practice and squats and stuff like that a little running. Thats how I prepared myself.

Coach Schuman:Have you been to the NUC before? How did you do? What were your expectations going into this years event?
Richard Brothers: Yes, I went to one in Tulsa and that was when I was and 8th grader and got M.V.P for W/R. So when I found out that I  was going back I prepared myself to go back and do the same thing. And that’s what I did.

Coach Schuman:You were MVP! What are your goals now?
Richard Brothers: My goals now is to work much harder then before and put a lot more effort into working out. I plan on getting bigger over the summer and to make my testing skills for both football and school A LOT better. I want to make it to college and someday to the PROS.

Coach Schuman:How did you hear about the National Underclassmen Combine and what was your favorite part about the event?
Richard Brothers: My uncle, he keeps me and my big brother Kentrell informed about these things so we’re ready for them. My favorite part was 1 on 1 and the showcase when I got too run routes and using my size to advantage and I thought in my head ” man I am ready for this, these D/B’s aren’t even ready I am taking M.V.P”.

Coach Schuman:If you can choose 5 schools where you would be interested in playing what would they be?
Richard Brothers: OSU, OU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Kansas State. But, you can’t look or count on one particular school you have to look at every school that offers you no matter if there d1 or d2 because you never know what could happen.

Coach Schuman:What do you like about high school football? What are your goals for your team and yourself?
Richard Brothers: The thing I like about high school football is just playing, nothing really specific. Its just when its time to play its time to give everything you got. Just gotta push myself. My goals for my team is to help them out the best I can. I look forward to playing varsity with my brother. My goals for myself is to push myself and get  bigger,.

Coach Schuman:Do you play other sports? Tell about your accomplishments?
Richard Brothers: Yes, I play basketball. Well, I am a freshman and I worked hard to play for varsity and all my hard work paid off.

Coach Schuman:What is your favorite thing about football? what makes it a great sport to you?
Richard Brothers: Everything about it, it keeps you busy and it can get you places.

Coach Schuman:Tell me about your training regimen…How do you get better every day?
Richard Brothers: I have training equipment like the SPARQ parachute & sled and a couple of more good things my uncle and grandfather bought for me and my brother to use.

Coach Schuman:What are you looking for in college? Academically? football?
Richard Brothers: I am looking for a college that will help me get a degree in whatever field I choose. In football, I would like them to help me reach my fullest potential and maybe someday make it to the pros.
