2009 Guthrie alum Stanton Stevenson is preparing to “do work” for his second season of college football at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Okla.
Stevenson, who is now measuring in at 5-11, 261 pounds, will be casted with a good part of returning starters for the Norseman defense.
“We don’t have a lot of needs to fill on defense except in the secondary,” Golden Norse head coach Donnie Bigby told the school’s website. “We’ve got several returnees that could play at the D-1 level once their career is over here.”
In the NEO spring game, the No. 1 offense went up against the No. 1 defense starting at the 40 yard line, and the defense created two interceptions and one fumble recovery in the first three series.
Stevenson, who was selected to the Guthrie Sports Page All Decade team on the offensive line for the Jays, is expected to fight it out for a tackle spot on the defensive line with three other Norseman.
Last year, Stevenson compiled 17 unassisted tackles and 14 assists with one tackle behind the line of scrimmage for minus-2 yards. He also blocked a field goal attempt. He is the son of Henry and Sheri Stevenson.
NEO, who plays in the National Junior College Athletic Association and plays in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, will enter on a four game losing streak from last season. The 3-6 Norseman begin play, on the road, in Garden City, Kansas against the Garden City Broncobusters.
