Threat found inside GHS bathroom

There was a heavy presence of law enforcement officers at Guthrie High School on Tuesday after a message was found inside one of the school’s restrooms.

At 10:45 a.m. administrators at Guthrie High School were notified by a student of a threat written on a boy’s bathroom stall inside the school. The Guthrie Police Department was immediately notified of the threat and increased their presence on campus.

Written in what appeared to be a black sharpie, a threat was written out and stated it would take place at noon.

The threat is under investigation by the school administration as well as GPD.

“I really appreciate the swift response from the Guthrie Police Department and the willingness to assist from our other law enforcement partners,” Supt. Dr. Mike Simpson said in a press release. “We treat any threat to the safety of our students or staff seriously and that includes the events of this morning.”

Students and faculty were not allowed to go outside the school as officers with the Guthrie Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol were seen on the campus.

Extra administrators were also on hand to assist in the supervision of students. The increased presence of law enforcement officers is expected to continue for the remainder of the school day.
