Two candidates announce they’re running for Logan County Sheriff

With the filing period less than 10 days away, two candidates have announced they will run for the office of Logan County Sheriff.

Michael Lanoy and Ben McHand both announced they will run against current Sheriff Jim Bauman. Both made their announcement on social media.

On March 23, McHand in a Facebook post said, “Come on April, ready to file for Logan County Sheriff! I will bring Leadership and Professionalism to the Office!”

In Nov. 2012, Bauman gathered 60.1 percent of the vote to defeat McHand and John W. Marshall to earn his second straight four-year term. In 2012, McHand ran on the Democrat ticket, but says he will run on the Republican ballot this time around.

On April 2, Lanoy announced his candidacy on Facebook. “I am officially announcing I am running for Logan County Sheriff.”

Lanoy, a current Sergeant with the Guthrie Police Department, said he’s a life long resident of Logan County and has served this community as a law enforcement officer for fourteen plus years.

In February, Bauman announced he was running for a third term. Related story: Sheriff Bauman announces he will run for a third term

Anyone wishing to run for the county offices of sheriff, county clerk, court clerk or district two commissioner will have the opportunity to file their paperwork between April 13-15 with the Logan County Election Board. If there are two or more candidates to file for an office, a primary election will be held June 28.
