Watch: Jim Daves calls it a career after 45 years in law enforcement

On his last day as a Sergeant for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Jim Daves was looking for one of the bad guys in eastern Logan County. A few hours later, Daves signed off for the final time after 45 years of law enforcement service.

On Wednesday, Daves final assigned call was for what he thought was something else. Turns out, he arrived to a farewell party. He entered the property surrounded with police cruisers lined up with past and current colleagues.

Before entering the reception, Daves reached for the radio one last time to go 10-7 (out of service). On the other end of the radio call was his daughter Jerica thanking him for his service.

Along with Daves, his K9 partner of seven years Darco retired. Yes, Darco had a personalized cake at the ceremony.

Daves started his career in 1971 by joining the Army and then entering the Special Forces, where he remained until 1975 where he continued his Army career in the reserves until 1992.

He entered law enforcement work in 1975 and joined with Waynoka Police Department. He would later serve at Kingfisher (1976-79), Guthrie Police Department (1979-85), Choctaw Police Department (1985-97) and Oklahoma County Sheriffs Office (1997-2005).

From there he worked for the State Department in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2010 before his final stop at LCSO from 2010 until his retirement.

Former Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetzel and current Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux were on hand for the reception.
