One person is in police custody after attempting to drive into a deputy’s vehicle twice. During the process, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper fired his weapon toward the suspect’s vehicle.

Guthrie News Page was first to report that just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, a Logan County Sheriff’s deputy and an OHP trooper were clearing the scene of a vehicle accident on Highway 33 near Coyle when a male suspect drove too close to the scene and driving recklessly.

The deputy attempted to make contact and pulled over the driver when the man put his vehicle in reverse and backed into the deputy’s car. The man drove off, and the deputy and trooper pursued.

The deputy pulled over the man again, and he backed into the deputy’s car a second time, which is when the trooper fired two shots at the man’s truck.

The suspect drove off and led the trooper on a pursuit eastbound on Highway 33 into Payne County.

The pursuit traveled for 2.9 miles when the trooper performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to send the suspect’s vehicle into a ditch near Karsten Creek Rd. The suspect was soon after taken into custody.

Several investigators for the Sheriff’s Office and OHP were dispatched to the scene.

The suspect was taken from the scene to Stillwater Medical Center for minor cuts. He was not shot.

Guthrie News Page will have more information when further details become available.
