Dropout rate for Guthrie High School decreases in 2017

Guthrie Public Schools shared a three-year drop out rate comparison for the Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting.

Assistant Superintendent Doug Ogle displayed a chart showing a total student count, number of dropouts, graduation rates, total seniors graduated and total seniors not graduating over the past three school years.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson mentioned the state continues to find the correct formula to display more accurate results.

“This is a much truer reflection of the work that we are doing,” Simpson said.

The chart showed 40 students had dropped out in the previous school year compared to 43 students in 2015-16 and 23 students in 2014-5.

Ogle reported 13 seniors from a year ago did not graduate on time, but that those students have or continue to attempt to graduate through online courses from either at home, the high school or at the alternative school (Faver).

The last school year showed 193 seniors had graduated, or 96 percent, on time. The percentage in the previous two years were 95 and 97 percent.
