Guthrie Public Schools hires Jason Burkhart as next Executive Director of secondary dducation, HR

Guthrie Public Schools has hired Jason Burkhart as its next Executive Director of Secondary Education and Human Resources.

The Guthrie Board of Education approved the hire with a unanimous 5-0 vote. Burkhart’s first day with the district is scheduled for June 29.

Burkhart will fill the position held by John Hancock, who recently accepted the superintendent position with Hinton Public Schools. Hancock spent three years with the Guthrie school district. Related article: GPS administrator named new superintendent for Hinton Public Schools

Burkhart currently serves as principal at Cooper Middle School in the Putnam City School District. His educational career includes experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and campus principal.

A graduate of Midwest City High School, Burkhart earned a theater degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. In 2012, he was named Teacher of the Year in the Mid-Del School District while teaching drama and television production.

He also helped develop the Millwood Arts Academy and previously taught at Northwest Classen High School before joining Mid-Del Schools.

Following the announcement, Burkhart shared a message on social media expressing excitement for the opportunity while thanking colleagues and staff members in Putnam City.

“I am very excited about this new journey and look forward to working and learning alongside some terrific new people,” Burkhart said. “To my Putnam City folks that I have built lasting friendships with, and especially all of my awesome people at Cooper Middle School, who have become like family! I love you guys and will miss you!”
