The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged animal cruelty case after authorities discovered multiple dogs living in severe neglect and the skeletal remains of dozens of other dogs on a rural Logan County property Monday.
The investigation took place on Crystal Lake Drive with assistance from the Humane Society of Tulsa.
According to the Humane Society of Tulsa, staff members responded Monday morning to assist sheriff’s deputies in what was described as a criminal neglect and abuse investigation.

Officials said they found multiple dogs living in “filth, emaciated, starved, and in pain.” In addition to the surviving animals, investigators located skeletal remains of dozens of dogs in burn pits and barrels throughout the property.
Six dogs were removed from the property and are now receiving care from the Humane Society of Tulsa.
The organization said the animals will require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation as they recover and as the case moves through the legal process.
The suspect has been identified by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office as Robert Smith Pittman.
According to sheriff’s officials, Pittman was already in custody when the search and animal rescue took place Monday. As of Tuesday afternoon, no formal charges had been filed in connection with the investigation.
Jail records show Pittman was booked into the Logan County Jail on July 1 on an allegation of failure to register as a sex offender.
Court records show Pittman previously pleaded guilty, in 2009, to seven counts of sexual abuse of a child in Oklahoma County. He was sentenced to 20 years on all counts, with all but the first seven years suspended to be served in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as investigators continue processing evidence from the property.
