It was not a perfect week for Guthrie Baseball, but it was darn near perfect considering the Jays won four of five games, including an enormous game to conclude the week.
The only slip came against Carl Albert on day two of the Choctaw Tournament. The Titans continue to have the Jays number with a 6-1 win to take the second game of the season.
The 3rd ranked BlueJays are now 15-3 overall and 6-0 in district play to put themselves in position to perhaps host a 5A regional at season’s end.
In both wins over the 6A clubs, the Jays needed 5 and 6 runs in their last at bat to pull out the wins.
Against Santa Fe, Guthrie trailed 7-3 and were down to their final three outs, rallied for the five runs to pull out the resume builder win. Clint Simek got the pitching win while Jacob Chappell was credited with the save. Landry Chappell led the way at the plate with three of the team’s 10 hits. Both Simek and Jacob Chappell added 2 RBI’s.
Trailing 6-2 and again down to their final three outs, the Jays crossed six runs in the final frame to secure the rally over the 17th ranked Lions.
Cody Reihs collected the pitching win while Luke Davis was the offensive star with two RBI’s on 3-for-5 hitting. Jacob Chappell was credited with the save.
