Logan County Task Force helps battle wildfires in Woodward County

For the third time, the Logan County wildfire task force was deployed to assist firefighters battling wildfires in the northwestern part of Oklahoma.

The task force headed to Woodward County last week, where crews have been fighting fires for extended periods. Officials said firefighters in the area had been working for approximately 32 hours straight before the Logan County crews were sent to help provide relief.

The wildfire is believed to have torched 2,500 acres.

The Logan County task force includes crews from Woodcrest Fire Department, Cashion Fire Department, Langston Fire Department and Orlando Fire Department.

The local crews worked a 12-hour deployment as they assisted with firefighting operations and allowed other firefighters to rest.

The deployment comes as Logan County agencies have also responded to multiple fires within their own county.

The task force has established its operation in Woodward County, where crews are continuing to assist with the wildfire response.

Because there was no cell service or internet available in the area, the task force brought the EM-1 command truck along with its Starlink communications system.

The equipment allowed crews to communicate with the state Emergency Operations Center and other agencies working in the area.

The task force also used the communications setup to monitor weather information, which is an important part of operations as crews continue working in the wildfire area.
